Fort Pickens

Fort Pickens was the largest group of forts designed to fortify Pensacola Harbor and was used during the Civil War.  Wall art of this beautiful relic would prove to add an interesting backdrop of historical flair to any home or office.

Constructed between 1829-1834 and it supplemented Fort Barrancas, Fort McRee, & the Navy Yard.  Located at the western tip of Santa Rosa Island (Pensacola Beach), just offshore from the mainland where it guarded the island & the entrance to the harbor.

One June 20, 1899, a fire in Bastion D reached the bastion’s magazine, which contained 4 tons of gun powder.  The explosion obliterated Bastion D with a force so great that bricks from the walls landed across the bay at  Fort Barrancas, over 1.5 miles away.
