Description: 
Located near Marianna, Florida, Merritts Mill Pond is a 4 mile long lake fed by first-magnitude Jackson Blue Spring and nearly a dozen smaller springs. It is a waterway unlike any other in Florida, with its unusual hues trapped between rocky slopes and edged with moss-draped cypress trees. Draped in this dense wrapping of Spanish moss, they add a ghostly feel as the moss waves in the breeze above the intense turquoise waters.

Artist Note: 
I have many wonderful childhood memories of swimming and fishing at Merritts Mill Pond with my father, brothers, aunts, uncles, and cousins - these memories are still so alive in me that I often have dreams about this place. The contrast between the large bald cypress trees, draped in Spanish moss that looks like white lace, and the crystal clear turquois water was always so mesmerizing and surreal... Fast forward 40+ years, those memories are still with me, so armed with a camera, instead of a fishing pole, I decided to return to Merritts Mill Pond to try to recapture the lake, that has almost haunted me (in a good way) for so many years.  I spent over three days photographing this beautiful lake.  On that trip I was able to capture some nice photos, but this is the one that best conveys the emotions and memories that I so fondly cherish from my childhood.  When looking at it, it brings back those memories of family and fun, from so many years ago.
