“Water Salute”
This image is from the final flight of the Blue Angels flying the F/A-18 A/B/C/D “Legacy” Hornets before transitioning to the F/A-18 E/F Super Hornet. The lighting was harsh as I was shooting into the sun and I was expecting them to fly over Navarre Pier before turning north so I wasn’t in the best location. I was hoping to honor the Blues with a nice photo and didn't think I had captured any good shots... but I’m actually pretty happy with this one.
We named this "Water Salute" for two reasons. When a plane makes its final flight, it is honored with a "water salute" where there is a ceremonial tradition of spraying planes with an arch of water. The second reason it as they flew over the water the contrails looked as though an arm extended out and held the planes keeping them safe. A final salute to a job well done! We love our military!
