During a trip last in April of 2021 a friend of mine (Tom Slade) showed me a beautiful area of big live oaks the locals call the Oak Garden. Years ago one of these ancient trees had fallen during a hurricane but managed to, not only survive, but thrive! This photo was taken from what was once the top of the tree that is now lying on the ground. It’s branches on one side of the tree are lying on the ground and (I think) have put out roots. With so many sprawling branches it looked like a huge leviathan with it’s tentacles reaching out for anything to grab on to… this tree was so full of life and was one of the highlights of my trip!
Taken in the Apalachicola National Forest, Florida on April 18, 2021
